LEON WARE – SOUL LEGEND
Leon Ware is a living soul legend. He was there, out in the streets of Detroit and in Motown’s Hitsville USA recording studio with Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. He created such classics as “I Wanna Be Where You Are” (Michael Jackson), “ Body Heat” (Quincy Jones), “If I Ever Lose This Heaven” (Average White Band & Quincy Jones), “Inside My Love” (Minnie Riperton) and the undeniable soul classic album “I Want You” (Marvin Gaye).
His long list of credits as a songwriter include other soul legends such as the Isley Bros, Ike & Tina Turner, Donny Hathaway, The Miracles, the Jackson Five and Bobby Womack.. Adding to that list, contemporary artists such as Maxwell with whom he copenned “Sumthin’ Sumthin” and a continuous variety of artists who have sampled his music from hip hop originators & legends such as Ice Cube, A Tribe Called Quest”, Tupac, Jay-Z to other present day soul standard bearers such as John Legend, Mary J Blige and Jaime Foxx.
Leon Ware, the songwriter and producer, is also a phenomenal recording artist in his own right. His music is haunting and lush, his silky voice pursuing and tempting love. Musical and lyrical sensuality is this man’s trademark. Leon Ware is still making music and planning new releases
His most recent release was on the Stax/Concord label entitled “Moon Ride”. He toured in Europe on the stages of London’s Jazz Café, Paris’ New Morning and the Paradiso in Amsterdam. He also performed in Tokyo ‘s famed “Cotton Club” in 2009 and was asked to return to perform on New Years Eve.
At 70 Leon Ware is still looking for new musical challenges as he continues working with talented young musicians in the US and in Europe, recording new music which is slated for release in 2011 along with more performances.
Leon Ware keeps heartfelt soul music alive and is the bridge between the unforgettable days of the 60’s and the 70’s and this new century. He is looking forward to many new opportunities to bring his music to the stage
